Art To The Avenue on Greenwich Avenue- Opening Night Festivities
Art to the Avenue celebrated its 13th year with a bang! I always call it Art on the Avenue, but its real name is “Art to the Avenue” and the idea is to expose people in Greenwich, CT to local artists. This year the Greenwich Arts Council will be hosting Art to the Avenue from May 6 through May 31, so if you missed the Opening Night Festivities, you still have plenty of time. There are 160 artists exhibiting their artwork both on Greenwich Avenue, and in some areas called “Off Avenue” locations. All of the art is for sale, and boy am I tempted to buy a couple of pieces after the Opening Night! In addition to seeing the artwork, there were entertainers on Greenwich Avenue including the following performers (from the Greenwich Arts Council website):
Allegra Dance
James Barnes – Flame Puppets on Stilts
Elanie Blais – Face Painter
The Bows – A Cappella Group
Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich Chalk Artists
Brunswick Jazz Im-Prov Group
EJ Couloucoundis – Singer/Guitarist
Dance Fit – Ballroom and Latin Dance
The Fuzzy Flow – Jazz/Funk Band
Jon Kass – Strolling Violinist

Here are some videos and photos from the opening night of Art To The Avenue 2010:
The lighthouse and water view paintings remind me of the East Coast.
Somehow a violinist outside of Vineyard Vines just feels right.
If I were a child again, I would be in paradise with a pink foam Vineyard Vine’s whale hat and a pink balloon!
Love how the blues and greens from the paintings tie in nicely with the shade of the swimming suits on display.
One of my favorite finds from the event was Koren Reyes photography. As soon as my husband and I become pregnant, we will be inquiring! How wonderful is her work?
A quick video clip of a Violinist & Guitarist who were playing outside of Design Within Reach on Greenwich Ave:
How did Lily Pulitzer find a painting that was “oh so Lily”… Oh how my future daughter would love this painting in her bedroom!
Only a couple of times a year are people allowed to drink wine on Greenwich Avenue and stand in the street to watch performances.
This artwork is made of marbles, keys, jeans, ropes, and is one of the most original pieces I saw. The piece is called “City Girl Jean Shop” and is 25″ by 19″ by an artist named Jennifer Contini Enderlay. For $5,000 you can have this piece that will definitely get your guests talking.
Another piece by Jennifer Contini Enderlay – for those who want a piece of Greenwich Avenue on their walls!
How adorable is this A Capellla group of ladies called The Bows? Have I mentioned lately how much I love Greenwich?
