French Sole Cocktail Party
Georg Jensen is no longer on Greenwich Avenue, but in its place at 160 Greenwich Avenue is French Sole, an adorable shoe boutique. French Sole specializes mainly in flats of every variety… buckles, bows, black, bright red, metallic, sparkly, leather, suede, anything you can dream up and even options you could never possibly dream of. There are a few shoes with a heel, but these are few and far between. French Sole began in New York City, but the brand is carried at large department stores such as Nordstrom. Prices start around $150 and go up from there… their pricing seems to be approximately on par with Tory Burch, also on Greenwich Avenue.
I was lucky enough to be invited to the opening party of French Sole on December 12, 2009. Bill Mason, Denis Joseph and Chris Meli of Greenwich Commercial Property (French Sole’s broker for the deal) were present, along with Charles Stuttig (the owner of 160 Greenwich Avenue), John Diamontopulos (the fabulous architect for French Sole) and others from Greenwich and New York. The hors d’œuvres were catered by Douro and were delicious: shrimp empanadas, humus on cucumbers topped with cherry tomatoes and a drop of balsamic vinegar, shrimp and sausage, with wine, beer and sangria to wash it all down.
I love the decor of French Sole… the black chandeliers and the bright pink logo… very nice mix of classic, chic and trendy:

The French Sole opening party was pretty full and according to the owner, Fumé Gurbuz, the store has done very well since it has opened on Greenwich Avenue. I would imagine that the holiday season has definitely helped too. Best of luck to Fumé and French Sole!
